Shock-Resistance Responses of Frigate Equipments by Underwater Explosion

Three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D-FEA) models have been used to evaluate the shock-resistance responses of various equipments, including armaments mounted on a warship caused by underwater explosion (UNDEX). This paper aims check possibility using one-dimensional (1D) FEA for responses. A frigate was chosen evaluation UNDEX. The divided into thirteen discrete segments along length ship. 1D Timoshenko beam elements were model frigate. explosive charge mass and stand-off distance determined based ship keel shock factor (KSF), respectively. UNDEX pressure fields generated Geers-Hunter doubly asymptotic model. pseudo-velocity response spectrum (PVSS) 1D-FEA (1D-PVSS) calculated acceleration history at concerned equipment position where digital recursive filtering algorithm used. 1D-PVSS compared with 3D-PVSS that taken from reference, relatively good agreement found. In addition, design criteria specified German Federal Armed forces, which is called BV043. proven be reasonable, reducing computing cost dramatically.
